Ralph Philander Ahn (September 28, 1926 – February 26, 2022; age 95) played Young-Ho during Season 1 of The Shield.
Biography and career[]
Ralph Ahn was born in Los Angeles, California. His parents were among the first wave of Korean immigrants in 1902. In 1944, Ahn joined the U.S. Navy, becoming one of approximately 100 Korean-Americans that served during the war.
After World War II, Ahn decided to pursue a career in acting. He was inspired by his older brother, Philip Ahn, one of the first Asian American actors. While working on his career, he also taught Business Math and was the Head Coach of the Varsity Football team at Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, California.
Through his acting career, Ahn has appeared in feature films like Prisoner of War, It Takes Two, and Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace. He has also appeared in TV shows like The Golden Girls, Gilmore Girls, The King of Queens, and ER. From 2012 to 2018, Ahn had a recurring role on ABC's sitcom New Girl.
Ahn died in Los Angeles on February 26, 2022, at the age of 95.
